What Is a Well Check Visit?
image_f1ce211d.png

Your Well Check Visit is a routine, preventive appointment designed to help you hear well, stay comfortable, and protect your brain health over time—even when everything seems to be going well.

Just like regular dental cleanings or annual physicals, these visits focus on prevention, early detection, and optimization, not just fixing problems.

As a member of our practice, these visits are included as a part of your ongoing care.

Why These Visits Matter

Many hearing changes happen gradually. Often, people adapt without realizing their hearing or listening effort has shifted.

Regular Well Check Visits help us:

  • Catch small changes before they become frustrating

  • Keep your hearing aids working at their best

  • Reduce listening effort and mental fatigue

  • Protect long-term hearing and brain health

Patients who attend regular preventive visits often experience:

  • Better clarity over time

  • Less strain in social situations

  • Greater confidence in daily listening

  • Longer-lasting benefit from their hearing technology

What Will Happen at Your Visit

Each Well Check Visit follows a consistent, thoughtful process focused on your long-term success.

1. Listening & Lifestyle Check-In

We’ll start with a brief conversation about how listening fits into your life right now—work, home, social activities, church, travel, or any new routines.

This helps us understand how your hearing needs may be evolving.

2. Ear Health Review

We’ll examine your ears to check:

  • Ear canal and skin health

  • Wax or moisture concerns

  • Anything that could affect comfort or sound quality

3. Hearing Stability Check

We’ll screen your hearing or review key frequencies and compare them to your previous results.

This allows us to track trends and identify subtle changes early—even before you notice them.

4. Hearing Aid Care & Optimization

Your hearing aids will be carefully checked and maintained, including:

  • Professional cleaning and inspection

  • Replacing wax guards, domes, retention tails, and microphone filters (if applicable)

  • Checking microphones and receivers

  • Assessment and removal of harmful moisture development in the device circuitry

  • Updating settings or software when appropriate

Small adjustments can make a meaningful difference in comfort and clarity.

5. Brain Health & Listening Effort

We’ll take a moment to discuss listening effort and fatigue—an often-overlooked part of hearing health.  Good hearing care isn’t just about volume. It’s about helping your brain work more efficiently every day.

  • Cognitive Screenings with the FDA approved Cognivue Thrive system.

We’ll perform a screening of your brain health and

review the results in detail with you, including

making recommendations for your unique hearing

      loss treatment.

  • Auditory Training with Lace AI Pro, the only auditory training program with 20 years of peer-reviewed science and cutting edge technology to teach patients to listen with their brains, not just their ears.

We’ll review your current training progress to make

sure you are on the right track for increased speech clarity and ease of listening; if you haven’t started auditory training yet, we’ll discuss the benefits and determine whether it will be helpful for you.

6. Looking Ahead

We’ll review today’s findings and confirm that things are stable—or explain any changes—and outline what to expect going forward.

If everything looks good, the goal is simple: keep it that way.
